Parental Mental Illness

Parental Mental Illness is  a Hidden Risk Factor in Education

Our Goals

Our goal is to discover parents’ psychological disorders and find their impact on their children's development, well-being, and educational experience.

It is estimated that around 12 to 45% of adults attending psychiatric services are parents to minor children. Parental mental illness not only affects the individual but has consequences for their children, partners, and the family environment.(Sell, M., Daubmann, A., Zapf, H., Adema, B., Busmann, M., Stiawa, M., Winter, S. M., Lambert, M., Wegscheider, K., & Wiegand-Grefe, S. 2021)

This presentation aims to raise public awareness about how parental mental health issues affect family functioning and to clarify the role of educators in identifying risks and providing appropriate support.
